The highlight alumni event this past Spring was the Dennis G. Peters Memorial Symposium, held on April 15, 2023. More than 100 people gathered in Bloomington with another 25 or so virtual attendees to join College of Arts and Sciences Executive Dean Rick Van Kooten, Chemistry Chair Steve Tait, and Dennis’ niece and nephew to celebrate the life and career of Professor Dennis G. Peters (1937-2020). Eighteen scientists, including former students, colleagues, and family members recounted the impact Dennis had on their lives as they described their current research, shared humorous anecdotes of their time with Dennis, and painted an intimate portrait a person so central to the success of our research and teaching mission for more than half a century. Many attendees stayed to enjoy Taco Mania and Margaritas at the IMU after the symposium ended. The Department wishes to acknowledge those whose efforts made this event a memorable experience for all who attended, especially Caroline Chick Jarrold, Stephen Jacobson, Eric McKenzie, Julie Abrams, and Steve Tait. We also thank all of individuals and families who generously donated funds to inaugurate the Dennis G. Peters Chemistry Graduate Student Support Fund, the Dennis G. Peters Undergraduate Scholarship, and the Dennis G. Peters Associate Instructor Award.
