Alumni News: Jessica Vadas

Jessica Vadas joined the IU Department of Chemistry in 2013 after receiving her bachelor’s degree in physics and chemistry from Earlham College. Jessica pursued a PhD in nuclear chemistry under the direction of Professor Romualdo de Souza, where she investigated fusion between neutron-rich light and mid-mass nuclei. During her graduate career, Jessica received many awards including the Carroll Family Fellowship, Provost’s Travel Award for Women in Science, American Physical Society Division of Nuclear Physics Travel Grant, and National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. In her last year at IU, Jessica pursued a postgraduate certificate in medical physics while simultaneously writing her dissertation. Jessica then went on to complete a medical physics residency in radiation therapy at Beaumont Health in Royal Oak, MI before accepting a position as a clinical therapeutic medical physicist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. In 2023, she accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Medical Physics at the University of Minnesota where she currently oversees the UMN Veterinary Medical Center’s radiation therapy program.
