Liangyi Zhang joined the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University in 2003 to pursue a PhD in Analytical Chemistry. Liangyi studied under the direction of Professor James P. Reilly and his research focused on developing and understanding peptide fragmentation using high-energy ultraviolet light in mass spectrometry. He really enjoyed the beautiful campus and the cozy college town of Bloomington. Upon completing his doctorate degree Liangyi went to the biotechnology industry and applied advanced analytical technologies including mass spectrometry to perform in-depth structural characterization of protein therapeutics. Over the years, he had increasing roles and responsibilities in leading analytical scientists to tackle a series of challenges in the area of therapeutic protein development. In 2022, Liangyi joined Allogene Therapeutics as a Director of Analytical Development and Drug Product Development where he is currently leading a team of biochemists and cell biologists in developing allogeneic T cell therapies for cancer treatments.
