He flew on over 50 combat missions during this time, providing care for the most critically ill and injured patients over three continents. In 2009, Dr. Sorensen was selected to fill a position as a United States Air Force Exchange Officer with the Chilean Air Force. He and his family moved to Santiago, Chile, where they lived for the next three and a half years. While there, he worked as part of the Aerospace Medicine Clinic at the Chilean Air Force Hospital as well as spending time in the Emergency Department providing care for patients. He was able to respond with the Chilean Air Force as part of an expeditionary medical team to the south of Chile after the large earthquake of 2010 devastated much of that country. Dr Sorensen has also served as the Emergency Medicine component of a large medical team during two humanitarian medical missions to Easter Island to provide needed medical care to the people of that remote island. After serving 14 years in the Air Force, Dr. Sorensen took a position back in the civilian world working clinically at the Emergency Department in St. George, Utah. He continues to provide excellent patient care there on a regular basis. He has taken up his newest hobby of mountain biking since living in the desert southwest.
